Janelle Monae Inspired Hair

Last night, I was invited out to a Birthday dinner… I really wasn’t feeling well so I decided to go a lil’ dramatic on my look… makeup and dressing up always aids in making me feel better. Prior to this look my hair was a mess. I grabbed my Hicks Edges and went to work on my stretched coil. That Hicks is a god-send because it will take the kinkiest of hair and make it appear as if you were pressed. If you have never heard of it, I admonish you to try it because this stuff will definitely LAY!

Sooo… Here is the finished look.
I prepped my face with a Clinique Moisturizer and a thin layer of Milk of Magnesia. For foundation I used Revlon ColorStay in “Caramel” and I set my foundation with IMAN Perfect Response Oil Blotting Pressed Powder and MAC’s Studio Fix in NW43. On my Cheeks is Laura Mercier “Blush N Brighten” and a Milani Bronzer Powder. Under my eyes, for a glow, I used a Highlighting Powder by MAC. My brows have been drawn in using a Ben Nye Pencil in “Dark Brown” and 2 eye shadows from the Coastal Scents 88 Matte Palette in a Purple and Red Shade. My brows have also been defined with Ruby Kisses 3D Face Creator Concealer in Level 9. My eyes were primed with Ruby Kisses Eyeshadow Magic Primer and a NYX Jumbo Pencil in “Yogurt” as a base. I applied MAC’s Cork e/s on my lid and in the crease I used MAC’s e/s Brown Script. For the Brow highlight I used MAC’s e/s in “Grain”, then topped with another MAC e/s in “Honesty.” My top lid was lined using a Ruby Kisses Liquid Eye liner in Black and Sassi’s #47 lashes were applied to further the drama in this look. On my lips, I used a beautiful fuchsia lip color with a blue undertone from New York Color called “Blue Rose.”
My hair slicked using Hicks Edges and Argan Oil Ecco Styler Gel. I also twisted it upwards in the back similar to how you would do a french bun. I secured it with large bobby pins and once I got near the crown of my head I used 2 Combs to secure the hair and the loose ends were fluffed and pinned into the fluff. If that makes sense…lol! Its hard to explain! I’ll do a video tutorial on it.
The hair of course was inspired by Janelle Monae
I hope you enjoy! ❤
