Biotin: The Hair, Skin & Nails Vitamin

I’ve started taken Biotin. Biotin is a coenzyme and a B vitamin, also known as vitamin H. It’s a supplement for healthy skin, hair and nails. Being a natural girl, I figured I’d add this vitamin in my diet to improve the health and length of my hair. It supports the health of the skin, nerves, digestive tract, metabolism, and cells. Biotin is most often thought of as the “hair growth vitamin.” Biotin has come to be known for its role in the health and beauty of Hair, Skin and Nails. It promotes healthy hair growth and protects against dryness. It also increases the elasticity of the hair’s cortex, thus preventing breakage. In addition to my current hair regimen and my biotin intake… my hair should be strong and down my back right? *giggles* It’s still important to manually take care of your hair, skin and nails. You can mistreat these areas and take a pill and think its all going to be okay… You must put in work and time to nurture your skin, your hair and your nails to see the best benefits from any method.

Biotin can be found in food sources such as beans, breads, cauliflower, egg yolks, fish, kidney, legumes, liver, meat, dairy products, nuts, oatmeal, oysters, peanut butter, poultry, and whole grains, so there isn’t a need to take biotin supplements if your diet is already rich in these foods.

Biotin may be able to help treat and prevent a variety of hair conditions. The University of Maryland Medical Center says that biotin can be used as a treatment for helping to heal thin or splitting hair. Unfortunately, these conditions can make your hair susceptible to other problems, such as hair loss. Biotin is also essential for aiding in the prevention of alopecia, a condition that may lead to partial or complete hair loss.
I’m excited to see what biotin does for my hair, skin and nails over the next few months. I might even start tracking my hair growth on my YouTube channel! We will see.
I picked up a bottle of Biotin from my local WalMart for about $6. Its instructions were to take one pill a day preferably with food… so that’s what I’m doing. I’ll keep you posted on the results.
If you decide to purchase Biotin or any other vitamin or supplement make sure you read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the label for complete safety!

I have been taking biotin for the past three months and it has made a difference in my hair and nails strength and growth, as well as my complexion. You just have to consistent use it, because I did stop for about a week and noticed the effects starting to wear off.

    BTW: I love your blog!
