The Infamous Bio-Oil

Okay girls… lets talk! So this weekend I was carousing in CVS as I usually do every now and again. I wanted to see if any new cosmetic line had anything new. I was also in there looking for a peel off/wash off Masque product to incorporate in my regimen. I did find a masque product and I haven’t used it yet so we will discuss that in a later post. While in the skincare aisle I stumbled upon BIO-OIL. Made in South Africa, it retails about $12 for the 2.0oz and just a little over $20 for the 4.2oz.  Since I’m reviewing this product for the first time i decided to stick with the 2.0 ounce this go ’round. *wink* This product has been the result of many reviews on YouTube and other beauty related sites. Some beauty bloggers even swear by this stuff. I actually didn’t even know that CVS sold this, what a surprise to me to stumble upon it. Of course… I needed purchased the product after reading the packaging and googling and reading their site while in the store. According the Bio-Oil; Bio‑Oil has won 70 skincare awards and has become the No.1 selling scar and stretch mark product in 11 countries since its global roll out began in 2002. CVS has their version of Bio-Oil as well but for the integrity of the review, I’ve purchased the original.

So you ask, “Well what is it good for?” It’s non-greasy, contains no preservatives, diminishes old and new scars, helps reduce stretch marks during pregnancy or other rapid weight changes, and softens the appearance of existing stretch marks, evens out skin discoloration, smoothes, moisturizes and tones dry and dehydrated skin, great for mature and aging skin. Its suitable for all skin types

Well what’s in it? Supposedly its all natural because it contains:

Botanicals

Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract (Calendula Oil)
Lavandula Angustifolia Oil (Lavender Oil)
Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil (Rosemary Oil)
Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil (Chamomile Oil)

Vitamins

Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A)
Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E)

Oil base

Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum)
Triisononanoin
Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate
Isopropyl Myristate
Glycine Soja Oil
Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil
BHT
Bisabolol

My personal review and usage:

I’ve tried the product on my face already (I have combo/oily skin) and I can say that I has a pleasant smell, It can be over-bearing to some but I noticed that the product does absorb into the skin rather quickly (8 to 10 minutes) and when it absorbs the scent fades away as well. I decided to use this product as a night oil. I know “night oil” isn’t a listed use on the packaging but I will be using this product after I exfoliate my skin at night and I will apply the oil to my face and an intense moisturizer and toner to even out my skin complexion. Our skin tends to renew itself while we are sleeping, so what better time than the PM hours to get total facial renewal, right!?

I’ve heard that it does well with scars and stretch mark from other beauty bloggers… Have you tried it? Will you try it? I will! *I’ll update you*
