Has the nail biting dilemma been solved?

Has getting braces cured my nail biting dilemma? Ive been plagued with the awful nail biting curse that I have tried off and on to break several time throughout my years of walking this Earth. Its such an awful and disgusting habit to have. *deep sigh*  It seems that the only time my nails get a break from my mouth is when I get artificial nail tips put on. I usually keep them on for several months at a time and I get frequent fill-ins to get them looking nice. While wearing nails this seem to also be the only time when my nails can actually grow out to a nice length. The months leading up to the installation of my braces I had my nails on… Solar nails to be exact. I’m 6 weeks into having braces and I recently took my nail tips off. I, however, am not physically able to bite my nails. My bite has changed significantly in these past 4 to 6 weeks and it’s extremely hard to put my thin nail between my teeth to nibble off anything…. and yes, I tried.

Nail biting is one of the most common ‘nervous habits.’ It can be triggered by stress, excitement, boredom or inactivity. It can also be a learned behavior from family members. My mom was a nail biter. Ughhh!

Before braces, it was so easy to just snip a nail off– and mind you, I did this unconsciously and then I would catch myself in the act, but by then its too late. Since my teeth are evolving and I can’t chew and nibble the same, I don’t even want to bite my nails.

I have about 18 more months to go in my braces and this is the perfect time to kill two birds with one stone, Get “awesomely” aligned teeth while breaking a nasty orally fixated habit.

So I ask the question again… Has getting braces cured my nail biting dilemma? I think so… I remain optimistic that after getting my braces taken off I don’t relapse. I don’t know why I share this stuff with ya’ll… LOL *giggles*  Pray for me ya’ll! : )
